A romantic little relic of the Paris 1900 Exposition Universelle, this gilt brass and beveled glass casket carries a hand-painted eglomisé (reverse-painted glass) scene of the Pont Alexandre III on its lid, complete with the bridge’s gilded winged horses and lettering identifying the landmark. The box sits atop delicate twisted brass wirework legs, with a scalloped circular frame mounted above -likely intended to hold a small photograph or portrait, now empty but with its original woven paper backing intact.
The beveled glass sides catch the light beautifully, and the hinge and clasp remain functional. Wear is visible in the painted scene (some flaking/loss to the paint, as is common with eglomisé pieces of this age) and light oxidation to the brass - both typical and part of the charm of a piece over 120 years old.
